Blade Runner – The Unicorn Edition

It exists multiple versions of the Blade Runner’s soundtrack and it’s very difficult to know which one is the best in term of quality and content.
The majority of them come from 3 unique sources : the audio cassette released in 1982 coming from a sound engineer then working on the project, the mysterious CD version released in 1993 under the Off World Music label (subsequently re-released under the Gongo Music label in 1995), and the just as mysterious Deck Art version released in 1997 on DAT which contained the entirety of the movie without the dialogues.
It was time to reedit all of these versions (about 50) and to propose a final version which takes the best of each of them.

A lot of sorting and mastering work had to be done (noise reduction, frequency and pitch/tune adjustments, audio level harmonization…) and I chose to integrate for this edition the three main audio mediums to symbolize the timeless character of this music: the vinyl, the audio cassette and the CD.

You now have in your hands the ultimate version of the music of Blade Runner composed by Vangelis and also the rarest ever made and released in only 50 copies: The Unicorn Edition.

The Vinyl
This maxi-single contains two versions of the music “I Dreamt Music” (Alternate Love Theme) which was composed and used in the “Workprint” version. I could not make this box without incorporating a vinyl that remains for me the most beautiful and sought-after audio medium by any collector. This is the first time in the Blade Runner universe that such support is used for such a limited private edition.

The Audio Cassette
This cassette contains the very first pirate version of the score of Blade Runner. It is identical to the one circulating in 1982. It should rather be seen as an object of curiosity and collection. The music is also available on one of the 4 CDs of the box set.

The Film Version CD
This CD contains the entire soundtrack as heard in the film. All the voices as well as the sound effects present on the music have been deleted and sometimes extracted as interludes in order to privilege the original music.

The Nexus Files CD
This CD contains unpublished or alternate versions of music composed for different versions of the film. Some of them are present for the first time. The various sources used were, to name a few: MR3, EMS Recombination, MK2, 29th Anniversary, FIC, 2019 edition, private sources…

The Orginal Tape Recording CD
This CD contains all the songs present on the cassette in digital version. The cassette does not offer an ideal quality, so I preferred to offer you the same music on this support.

The Ambient Mix CD
This CD contains an ambient and personal version of different songs composed by Vangelis for Blade Runner. I wanted a soaring album allowing a new approach and vision of the sound universe of Blade Runner. I hesitated for a long time to include SFX from the film, but that would have distorted the sound and timelessness of the music. In order to make this album, I worked on separate tracks of some songs in order to delete, decrease or re-arrange some voices or instruments. I hope that this album will please you and take you into a universe outside space and time.

It is very important that this edition remains in the very private and restrained circle of collectors of Vangelis & Blade Runner. Andromeda Music does not want it to be industrialized and sold to a wider audience, so I am counting on your kindness to preserve my work.
